The traditional assessment mode of higher vocational nursing students has not been accommodating the new education environment any more. With the continuous reform of the education assessment, the assessments of the students show the trend of being participated by more roles. The self-assessment of the students draws the attention of the educators especially. This study brings forward application of self-assessment form as assessment for learning in higher vocational nursing students' manipulation skills training and carries out the preliminary exploration from both the aspects of the theory and the practice mainly through the methods of literature analysis, investigation and statistical analysis.First, the paper concludes and analyzes mastery of learning theory, assessment for learning theory and self-assessment theory, tries creating self-assessment form of assessment for learning mode, carries out the investigation for the ability to self-assessment of higher vocational nursing students in their learning, and gets to know the problems that exist.Secondly, the author designs the program to carry out self-assessment form of assessment for learning mode in higher vocational nursing students' manipulation skills training.Finally the author carried out the experimental research applying the implementation program above, and proved that self-assessment form as assessment for learning mode can promotes the study of the students.Objective: The object is to probe the effect of the application of self-assessment in manipulation skill, accuracy of self-assessment and learning initiative in the training for higher vocational nursing students.Methods: Define one nursing students class as experimental group (n=34), the other as control group (n=34). The traditional teaching method was applied to control group. Through observation the teacher found the problem of manipulation and gave advice at any moment. Students in the test group had added self-assessment as assessment for learning during teaching. Students performed self-assessment according to the detailed rules of self-assessment. Teacher gave instruction by checking the self-assessment list of students.Results: In final of three manipulations experimental group (75.68±1.35) got higher grade than control group (74.65±1.72 ) (P<0.01) . The number of students of experimental group who took part in the after school training once or less is less than the number of students of control group (P<0.01) . The number of students of experimental group who took part in the after school training twice or more is more than the number of students of control group (P<0.01) . The correlation between teachers' and students' of experimental group' was 0.512(P<0.01) . The correlation between teachers' and students' of control group' was 0.228(P<0.01) .Conclusion: The application of self-assessment form as assessment for learing in manipulation training promoted the manipulation skills, accuracy of self-assessment and learning initiative and proved that self-assessment can promote the study of the students.
