| Objective: To investigate the effects of Bugufangshutang on osteoporosis rats induced by retinoic acid on BGP in serum, OPG and IL-6 in bone tissues and morphology of bone. Discussion on the mechanism of treatment of osteoporosis with help of Bugufangshutang.Medthods:110 Wistar male rats were randomly divided into seven groups: normal group (n=10)and osteoporosis group (n=20)and prevention group (n=20)and normal dose herb group(n=15)and much dose herb group(n=15)and herb and Western medicine group (n=15)and Western medicine group (n=15).The rats in normal group were administered by 0.9% Nacl liquid for two weeks. The rats in prevention group were administered by 70mg/kg retinoic acid and 20g/kg Bugufangshutang for two weeks. The rats in other groups were administered by 70mg/kg retinoic acid for two weeks. Then sacrifice 5 rats each in normal group and osteoporosis group and prevention group to testify osteoporosis was induced by retinoic acid. Then begin to feed rats in prevention group and normal dose herb group with 20g/kg Bugufangshutang every day. To feed rats in much dose herb group with 40g/kg Bugufangshutang every day. To feed rats in herb and Western medicine group with 0.2ug/kg Alfacalcidol Tablets and 20g/kg Bugufangshutang every day. To feed rats in Western medicine group with 0.2ug/kg Alfacalcidol Tablets every day. Five rats from each experimentation groups had been sacrificed separately at 4th, 8th, 12th week after the medication .Then measure BGP in serum, OPG and IL-6 in bone tissues and morphology of bone.Results:1 The change of bone histopathology in all treated groups significantly ameliorated.2 The expression of OPG in osteoporosis group reduced compared to the normal group(P﹤0.01). The expression of OPG in prevention group , normal dose herb group ,much dose herb group ,herb and Western medicine group raised compared to the osteoporosis group (P﹤0.01). The expression of OPG in Western medicine group has not significantly change compared to the osteoporosis group (P﹥0.05).3. The expression of IL-6 in osteoporosis group raised compared to the normal group(P﹤0.01). The expression of IL-6 in prevention group , Western medicine group, normal dose herb group ,much dose herb group ,herb and Western medicine group reduced compared to the osteoporosis group (P﹤0.01). The expression of IL-6 in Western medicine group raised compared to the prevention group, normal dose herb group ,much dose herb group ,herb and Western medicine group(P﹤0.05).4 The expression of BGP in osteoporosis group raised compared to the normal group(P﹤0.01). The expression of BGP in prevention group , Western medicine group, normal dose herb group ,much dose herb group ,herb and Western medicine group raised compared to the osteoporosis group (P﹤0.01).Conclusion:1 With the help of Bugufangshutang or Alfacalcidol Tablets or these two medicines all have the effects on osteoporosis. The change of bone histopathology in all treated groups significantly ameliorated especially the much dose herb group,herb and Western medicine group.2 Bugufangshutang may inhibit the bone absorption and promote bone formation. Alfacalcidol Tablets can promote bone formation. Bugufangshutang and Alfacalcidol Tablets used together is better than only used one of them.
