ObjectiveThrough the theoretical research on Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education and the comparison research of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education between China and American,we want to build a program of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education that is both international and national.The curriculum program can be used in many schools of nursing.By using the curriculum program,the structure of knowledge of nursing undergraduates can be greatly improved,so the whole quality of nurses can also be greatly improved.Methods1.We research into the theory of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education by using literature review and make clear the theoretical foundation of our study.2.Comparing the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education in China with it in America by using cross-sectional research method.Combining the quantitative study with the qualitative research,we describe and inference the datum of credit hours and its ratio of compulsory curriculum,restrictive elective curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences between China and America by using SPSS12.0;we compare and analyze the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum between China and America against a background of society.3.Building the preliminary curriculum basing on the above research,and then using investigation research,precedence chart and weighted average method to evaluate the preliminary curriculum.Basing on the evaluation and experts depth interviewing,we put forward the formal curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences of nursing baccalaureate education in China.Results1.By using the theoretical research on Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum of nursing baccalaureate education,we put forward the principles of building the preliminary curriculum,that is comprehensive development,optimization,combining with the professional education,meeting the physical and mental development of students.2.The ratio of the compulsory curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences of China is higher than that of America,The ratio of the restrictive elective curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences of China is lower than that of America,and all the differences are significant (p<0.05);but the ratio of total credit hours of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum between China and America doesn't have significant difference(p>0.05).The types of curriculum:there is integrated curriculum in America;but there isn't integrated curriculum in China.The forms of curriculum:There is explicit difference between compulsory curriculum and restrictive elective curriculum in America;there isn't explicit difference between that in China.3.Among all the compulsory curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences of China and America,more than 50%of schools of nursing in both China and America have:college English,nursing leadership and management,nursing research;more than 50%of schools of nursing in America have but less than 50%of schools of nursing in China have:statistics,developmental psychology,general psychology,sociology;only America has but China doesn't have:cross-cultural and global health care,religious,health care system,western civilization,health care policy,the U.S.constitution and the system,literature.4.The formal curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences of nursing baccalaureate education in China include:the classification of curriculum,the names of curriculum,the terms,the credit hours and the curriculum form.The curriculum is made up of 3 parts,the curriculum that are stipulated by the national department of education,the core curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences,the restrictive elective curriculum of Humanities and Social Sciences.The restrictive elective curriculum are made up by thinking curriculum module,literary arts curriculum module,interdisciplinary curriculum modules.The curriculum includes 12 compulsory curriculum,10 restrictive elective curriculum,the total credit hours are 1094,they are 33.65%of the total credit hours of the whole curriculum(the average of 18 schools of nursing in China).Conclusions1.The ratio between the total credit hours of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum and the total credit hours of the whole program should be 30~34%.2.The types of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum:we should study Integrated Curriculum basing on the subject curriculum.3.The forms of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum:we should make clear the difference between compulsory curriculum and restrictive elective curriculum,combine the compulsory curriculum with the restrictive elective curriculum module.Tentative plan1.We want to go on studying the teaching content of Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum,writing corresponding textbook,improving the teaching methods and means, reforming assessment methods and so on. 2.We will apply the curriculum to nursing education,and improve the curriculum furthermore by evaluating the curriculum.
