Objective: To understand nutritional status of medical students and the status of nutritional KAP of the age of 18-25 undergraduate in Lanzhou. To identify problems, make commendations and provide the scientific proof for the further nutritional education. Methods: Medical students took the nutritional survey. The objects, consistent with conditions, were randomly selected by cluster sampling in two universities in Lanzhou and investigated with a self-designed questionnaire about nutritional KAP.Results: The average intakes of cereal, fruit, milk and bean were 584g, 158g, 71g, 90g and were more than the degree of investigation of Chinese population. The average intakes of vegetable and meat were 169g, 180g and were less than the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. The average intake of egg was similar to the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. The way of Dietary Balance Index found inadequate intake was the main dietary problem, mainly animal food, fruit, vegetable and milk. The average intake of energy was 2137.7 kcal. The percentages of protein and fat to provide energy were 12.6% and 17.9%. The average intake of protein was 68.7g and similar to the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. 16.9% protein came from animal foods and was lower 10 percent than the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. 18.3% protein came from bean and was higher 10 percent than the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. The average intake of VA was 403.0ngRE and lower than the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. The average intakes of VB1,VB2 were similar to the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. The average intake of Ca was 440g and 50% of RNI. The average intake of Fe was 25g and more than the degree of the investigation of Chinese population. 6.8% Fe came from animal food. The average intake of Zn was 12g and was similar to the degree of the investigation of Chinese population.Boys had more of overweight and less of low weight than those of girls. The incidence rates of overweight and obesity were lower than other regions and the incidence rate of low weight was higher than other regions. TSF+SSF and fat percentage of girls were higher than those of boys. The difference had a strong significant (P<0.001). Density, fat weight and fat / height index of boys were higher than those of girls. The difference had a strong significant (P<0.001).The contents of Fe, Zn, Mg in blood of boys were higher than those of girls. There were significant differences (P<0.05). The content of Ca of girls was higher than it of boys, and the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Number of the boys and the girls of less than the normal of content of Zn and Fe on hair were no difference (P>0.05). However, number of less than the normal of the content of Ca of boys was more than those of girls. The content of VA in plasma was 22.5±10.7μg/dl of boys and was 20.6±9.4μg/dl of girls. There was no difference. The average score of nutritional knowledge of the crowd was 31.3±7.6. The average score of nutritional attitude of the crowd was 12.9±2.8. The average score of the female was better than it of the male, the average score of the objects in city was better than it of the objects in countryside, and the average score of the objects of medical specialty was better than it of the non-medical specialty in the aspects of nutritional knowledge and attitude. Nutritional knowledge had a highly positive correlation with nutritional attitude (r=0.3, P<0.001) . The result of multiple linear regression analysis of influential factors on nutritional knowledge indicated sex, origin and specialty had a relation with nutritional knowledge. Conclusion: Inadequate intake of animal food, vegetable and fruit were the main dietary problem of medical students in Lanzhou and the undergraduate lacked generally knowledge of nutrition, but had a positive attitude in Lanzhou. An effective way of nutritional education should be done to improve the population's nutritional knowledge and provide support for the formation of good behaviors to change their diet to a reasonable direction changes.
