ObjectiveTo investigate the evaluation on current clinical practice of undergraduate nursing students and clinical teachers, to find out the defects and analyze the relevant factors.To compare the evaluation results of undergraduate nursing student with that of clinical teachers.To explore concrete measures to improve clinical practice methods and raise practicing efficiency based on defects.MethodsA descriptive design was employed. The clinical teaching practice of 25 undergraduate nursing students of 1998 grade and 19 undergraduate nursing students of 1999 grade and 84 clinical teachers in the First and Second Hospital affiliated to China Medical University was investigated by a questionnaire. The questionnaire was based on literatures and clinical practice outline. And it was revised by four experts in nursing education, nursing management and nursing research. The questionnaire consists of two parts: close - ended questions and open - ended questions. The close - ended part consists of five parts: planning; clinical teachers'teaching; nursing students "participant and practice; head nurses'supervision and management; effect and evaluation. SPSS 11. 5 was for data analysis.Results(1) Planning: clinical teachers were satisfied with plans, but 43.7% nursing students considered practice contents unconnected and 61. 1% nursing students considered practice contents not advanced.(2) Clinical teachers' teaching: there were 2 items higher than 4 score in the student evaluations and 22 items higher than 4 score in the teacher self - e-valuations; there were 25 significant difference items, the teacher self - evaluations were better than student evaluations; both held consistent view on sequence (r =0.549,p =0.002).(3 ) Nursing students' participant and practice: there were 4 items higher than 4 score in the student self - evaluations and 5 items higher than 4 score in the teacher evaluations; there were 9 significant difference items; both held consistent view on sequence(r=0.789,p= .000).(4) Head nurses "supervision and management: there was only 1 item higher than 4 score in the student evaluations, nursing students considered it moderate level; all items were higher than 4 score in the teacher evaluations, clinical teachers considered it high level. There was significance between the result of students and that of teachers.(5) Effect and evaluation; there were 2 items higher than 4 score in the student evaluations and 4 items higher than 4 score in the teacher evaluations; both considered it high level; there were 3 significant difference items.ConclusionThe survey indicated that current clinical practice plans werent consummate , there were some defects on teaching ability, interpersonal relationship and personality traits, nursing students were lack of learning activeness, head nurses should think highly of clinical teaching, it was difficult to obtain trust from clients and families for nursing students, speciality thought wasnt firm. It is necessary to take some measures to improve clinical practice quality.
