Objective: By studying about current stage of connection in Beijing emergency medical services system and finding out the problem existing in the connection, discuss and make a right connection mode that fits the development of emergency medical services system. Also it can give scientific support for establishment of codes about emergency medical services in Beijing.Method: Using combined method of qualitative research and quantitative survey. Conduct focus group interviews and in-depth interviews with doctors, nurses and managers working in emergency medical services system, and principals of medical management department in Beijing Health Bureau. The quantitative survey is using questionnaire to investigate 662 doctors and nurses in pre-hospital emergency medical centers, 706 doctors and nurses in emergency departments.Results:1,All of them had cognizance of importance of the connection. 40.2% and 39.7% of doctors and nurses in pre-hospital emergency medical centers respectively selected"relatively important"and"very important". The proportions in emergency departments were 48.6% and 35.1%. There was no difference between them (p>0.05).2,The jobs of connection in Beijing emergency medical services system mostly included that doctors or nurses of pre-hospital told those of in-hospital patients'illness in the gate of emergency department of hospitals. Also, they included that doctors or nurses of pre-hospital informed hospital of patients'critical illness ahead of schedule and workers in emergency department of hospital would prepare for the patient. 3,7.9% and 26.6% of doctors and nurses in pre-hospital emergency medical centers respectively thought the connection status was"too bad"or"a little bad". The proportions in emergency departments were 2.8% and 17.6%.The degree of members' satisfaction about connection in pre-hospital emergency medical services system was lower than that of emergency departments (P <0.05).4,Most doctors and nurses of pre-hospital thought the major problems of in-hospital were that receiving patients with delay, having no special channel for ambulance and shuffling patients to other hospitals with pretext. Most doctors and nurses of in-hospital thought the major problems of pre-hospital were that having no written note for connection, oversimplified description about the state of illness and seldom informing hospital of critical illness ahead of schedule.5,The majority of managers in emergency medical services system thought it should quicken the establishment of code about emergency medical services. They also thought it was important to build appropriate connection system and strengthen management of connection.Conclusion:1,There is lack of effective connection between pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency medical services systems in Beijing.2,Members of two systems pay little attention to connection in emergency medical services. There is short of uniform connection mode in Beijing emergency medical services system. The problems also include lacking management and unmatched equipment.3,Aiming at these problem, the government should strengthen guidance, make overall plans and take all factors into consideration and build appropriate connection system. It should quicken the establishment of code about emergency medical services. Also, it should strengthen communication and cooperation in technology and scientific research between two systems, strengthen software and hardware construction gradually, change members'mind, build and perfect the green channel for the patients in an emergency.
