ObjectivesTo study the features of brain 18F-FDG PET in Binswanger disease.MethodsWe studied five patients with Binswanger disease and analyzed the features ofbrain 18F-FDG PET and the clinic features retrospectively.ResultsBrain PETs showed that the areas of glucose hypometabolism were larger thanthose in MRI. Glucose hypometa bolism zones were mainly in the frontal lobe inearly period, then progressed to temporal occipital cortex, and in some patientsglucose hypometabolism zones also appeared in the basal ganglia, thalamus andcerebellum. The areas and the severity of glucose hypometabolism werecorrelated with the degree of dememtia. Glucose hypometabolism wasimbalanced in two hemispheres , and the left glucose hypometabolisms weremore sever than the right ones in three patients.ConclosionGlucose hypometabolism in the patients with Binswanger disease had theirdistinct features. PET can be used in the auxiliary examination in the patients ofBinswanger disease and the differential diagnosis of dememtia.
