Objective: The study was to investigate work satisfaction and its influent factors among the nurses in general hospitals above two in level of Taiyuan city in order for administrators to take effective interfered measures for improving work satisfaction of nurses and nursing quality, making nurse team stable.Methods: Making a questionnaire composed of two parts: McCloskey/Mueller satisfaction Scale (MMSS) and interviewing with related to 18 items based on referring to literatures home and abroad. Questionnaires were distributed and collected. 10 general hospitals above two in level were sampled in equal proportion, in which 1000 nurses were interviewed, and 891 questionnaires were input to database and analyzed.Results: It was not considered to be different between component of each hospital and overall sample by component chi—square test. The level of satisfaction in sum of sample was close to normal distribution by normal distribution test. By t-test , There were marked difference in level of job satisfaction between head nurses and nurses, nurses on night shift and nurses on day shift, among nurses who had different understanding about the occupation, nurses who had dfferent occupation sense. There was no marked difference by t-test between formal nurses and temporarily hired nurses. There was marked difference in level of job satisfaction by analysis of variance among nurses working in hospitals with different levels, ones working in different departments, ones with different healthy situation, and ones with different original academic credentials. But there was no difference in level of job satisfaction by analysis of variance among ones with different aquired academic credentials.Conclusion: The eight areas formed the level of job satisfaction were arranged in scores from the low to the high: satisfaction with extrinsic reward, satisfaction with professional opportunities, satisfaction with the balance of family and work, satisfaction with control and responsibility, satisfaction with scheduling, satisfaction with praise and recognition,satisfaction with interaction opportunities, satisfaction with co-wokers.
