ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to compare the serum testosterone level of female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yang type with the normal female of control group, and compare the serum testosterone level with the severe degree score of OA(ISOA) , the severe degree score of the X-ray manifestation and the symptomatic score of TCM in the female osteoarthritis patients, to explore the relationship of serum testosterone level and the pathogenesis of female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yang type. MethodsCollect the female osteoarthritis patients and the normal female of control group from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and diagnosed the TCM syndromes type of the female osteoarthritis patients according to the principle of the differentiation of symptoms, the female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yang type and the normal female of control group were measured serum level of testosterone, and the female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-YANG type were ranked score on the basis of ISOA, the severe degree score of the X-ray manifestation and the symptomatic score of TCM etc. SPSS 11.5 software was applied to analyze their correlations and distinct differences. ResultsCompared with the normal female of control group, the serum testosterone level of the female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yangtype were lower (t = —3.034, P<0. 05 );In the female osteoarthritis patients, the serum testosterone level had negative correlation with the ISOA, the severe degree score of the X-ray manifestation and the symptomatic score of TCM. ConclusionAs one of the most important androgen, low serum testosterone level is one important factor of the pathogenesis of female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yang type. Low serum testosterone level may aggravate the symptom of female osteoarthritis patients of insufficiency of kidney-yang type.
