In the past few years, there has been an increasing focus in the psychological crisis intervention during a critical accident. This study contains two relative discrete parts which were conducted to explore the effects of group psychological crisis intervention for collegiate students and medical personnel involved in SARS epidemic. The results of the study will contribute to our country to establish a perfect, scientific and effective crisis intervention system. In the study, the level of anxiety was evaluated by Self-Rating Anxiety Scale and the causes for anxiety were found through questionnaire designed by ourselves and face-to-face interview. The first part of the study explored the effects of a synchronous psychological crisis intervention for the isolated collegiate students group involved in SARS epidemic. The investigation of 138 isolated collegiate students involved in SARS epidemic before the intervention shows that they have a significantly higher level than normal in anxiety and SARS epidemic caused a great mental stress which leaded to anxiety. Then these isolated students participated in a sequential psychological crisis intervention for ten days and were investigated again post-intervention. Participants were observed to have significant decrease in anxiety after intervention. Results demonstrated that the synchronous psychological crisis intervention has a real effect on students for the relief of anxiety caused by a critical accident.
