Background Suicide is not only a psychological problem, but also a serious social problem. At present, there is a lack of relevant practical training on suicide prevention and psychological crisis intervention for mental health service personnel. The existing training and evaluation methods are less compatible, and the impact of personal characteristics to the competence is often ignored.Additionally, although the researches on competency model in the psychological field has been relatively mature, the theoretical model plays a limited guiding role in the evaluation and development of competence in practice due to operational difficulties and resource constraints.ObjectiveThe study aims to implement crisis intervention training and skills evaluation to mental health service personnel of Shanghai psychological crisis intervention demonstration site by means of the online course which based on simulated educational technology.Under the guidance of the competency model theory, the multi-modal data is used to diagnose and evaluate the crisis intervention core competence of the research object.Exploring the influence of factors such as skills and traits on core competencies, and finally forming a framework for the development of core competence of psychological crisis interventions, and proposing suggestions for the competence development of mental health personnel.MethodsAfter preliminary research, literature review and expert consultation,an online course of crisis intervention was developed based on the six-step method of crisis intervention.A simulated situation online training was conducted to 128 mental health service personnel of Shanghai psychological crisis intervention demonstration site.Knowledge and skills data were derived from learning log data and personal characteristics data were measured by relevant scales.Multivariate evaluation methods and sequential pattern analysis were used to analyze the mastery and learning weakness of the crisis intervention.Principal component analysis was used to fit the core competence evaluation index and generate the features.Decision tree analysis and mediating effect model were used to explore the factors and mechanisms which affected the crisis intervention core competence of mental health service personnel.Results104 valid samples were included in the final analysis, and the sample efficiency was 81.25%.Multivariate evaluation results showed that the formative evaluation had a great impact on the overall results. The best-performing crisis intervention skills are problem-identifying(41.69 ±7.06 points)and support-providing(19.59 ± 5.04 points). The need for reinforcement learning were safety-confirming(10.42 ± 5.11 points)and plan-formulating(5.77 ± 4.58 points).Different knowledge and skills have different characteristics in terms of investment time and pass rate.Learners with different learning performance have differences in learning behavior patterns, and several specific nodes, such as the safety-confirming,are the key nodes that affect the effectiveness of crisis intervention counseling, and also the reasons for the differences in learning performance levels. The characteristics components that have a major impact on the core competence level of crisis intervention were:(1)C3: learning behavior pattern;(2)C6:attitude;(3)C7: crisis intervention skills(commitment-obtaining);(4)C1: personal traits;(5)C2:crisis intervention skill(support-providing,alternatives-examining).The variables included in the model can effectively predict the core competence level of crisis intervention of learners, and the accuracy of the decision tree classification model is 84.00% +/-8.26%.Openness and emotional intelligence played a mediating role in support-providing skills and crisis intervention competence, with the effect sizes of 0.236 and 0.432 respectively. The mediating effect of emotional intelligence between alternatives-examining and crisis intervention competence was 0.475.The crisis intervention knowledge and skills of support-providing,alternatives-examining and commitment-obtaining play a mediating role between learning behavior pattern and core competence, with effects of 0.891,0.429 and 0.619,respectively.ConclusionsSimulated situation online education is an effective means to improve psychological crisis intervention skills.Appropriate evaluation methods can be used to objectively diagnose learning weaknesses.Learners with different learning performance have their own characteristics in learning behavior patterns, and different strategies should be adopted to enhance the skills with different learning characteristics.Learning behavior pattern has a positive effect on learners’ core competence by influencing their mastery of knowledge and skills. Thus, improving behavior pattern can effectively improve knowledge, skills and core competence. The promotion effect of knowledge and skills on core competence is influenced by personal traits,so it should be paid attention to when formulating relevant competence development strategies. The framework of crisis intervention for core competence development can provide a relatively complete path of variable relations,so as to intuitively reflect the relationship between skills, personal traits and core competence, and guide the formulation of competency development strategies. In addition,a more comprehensive competence development and evaluation environment should be created for mental health service personnel. |
