Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of TuLing(TL) decoction in treatment of acute psoriasis vulgaris(APV)and to investigate the possible mechaniasms and the function of TNF-α and IL-8 in the pathogenesis of PV. Methods: 86 patients with APV had received the TL decoction for 8 weeks, as compared with FuFangQingDai (FFQD) pill and DiYin(DY) tablet. Psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) was used to monitor the disease activity. The level of serum TNF- a and IL-8 were measured before and after treatment. Resu Its : The clinical cure and obvious rate was 76. 74%, the effective rate was 95. 35%, which were equal to those of DY tablet and better than those of FFQD pill. As to the recrudescent rate after 6 months and the side-effective rate, there were significant differences between TL decoction and DY tablet. The level of serum TNF-α and IL-8 of patients with APV increased obviously before treatment and decreased after treatment with TL decoction. Morever, the serum level of TNF-α and IL-8 correlated with PASI. Conclusions: TL decoction is effective in the treatment of APV. The possible mechanisms of its action might be to be adjust the level of serum TNF-α and IL-8. TNF-α and IL-8 play an important role in the pathogenesis and prognosis of PV.
