| Flower border is a kind of application form of flowers, which refers to natural wild flower by artistic refinement.With merits of varied plants, seasonal views and lower cost maintenance, it can be widely used in landscape. Now, it is just in its initial stage of utilization in China, which are designed in green open areas, and it is gradually becoming a more important design form. The research on selection of flower border plants and application can provide some instructions for border design,the using of flower borders can also enhance the biodiversity and enrich the views of city. By 1 year investigation, the thesis focused on the study of border plants selection,systematic analysis and evaluation of flower borders in Wuhan, some suggestions of improvement and arrangement models were put forward in text. Meanwhile, on the basis of references of native wild flowers resources in Hubei Province, some native plants right for flower borders were selected. The main conclusions are as follows:1.By investigation of typical green areas of Wuhan, the flower border was not widely used in wuhan, mainly concentrated in parks.Residential areas were seldom used.Flower borders mainly were consisted of shrubs and perennial plants,the forms of using mainly are roadside border,woodland border and island border and so on.2. By one year's investigation of the plants used in the flower borders, the results showed that there were 243 species, of which annuals were 27 species, perennials were 113 species, shrubs were 65 species, ornamental grass were 23 species and climbers and ferns were 15species, and common species especially involved in genus of Compositae, Liliaceae,and Gramineae.The native plants were 85 species, accounted for 34.9%.3.The present study made a survey of the composition, character and species diversity of the 9 typical sample flower border communities through a plant community research method.The communities were mainly composed by shrubs and herbs,the Shannon-wiener indexs all above 2.0, it shows the flower borders play an important role in biodiversity. Some species of high ornamental value used in flower borders were also recommended.4.Through studying the different types of flower borders of Wuhan, including parks, plazas, street green areas, road and residential areas, the author gave some advice on improve the design,and discussed how to design in the light of design principles. 5.On the basis of data collection, the author analysed the advantage of wild flowers in Hubei, and recommened 89 species of perennial indigenous wild flowers and 54 native shrubs with potential application in flower border.The 43 species were expounded.
