A Study On The Height Growth Of Preschool Children In Some Chinese Cities

[Objective]1. To realize the height growth status of preschool children in the survey areas.2. We analyzed the current situation of preschool children’ sstunting in the survey areas, to explore the feasible preventive measurements.3. To realize the status of height growth potential, and to explore the influence factors of height growthPotential.[Method]The data came from the study of the early intervention of the preschool children’s height deviation in urban. The children were chosen from seven cities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Haikou, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Liuzhou).We performed an analysis every half year from March,2012 to October,2013 and four analyses in all. The content of the analysis embrace parent questionnaire and physical measurement.[Results]1. The average height of different genders of all ages were greater than the 50th percentile of the corresponding standards. The height distribution of the southern city were poorer than the east and midwest urban.2. In the first survey, stunting rate was 1.40%. More than half of the new stunting children’s height were in P3～P10 before six months ago. The distribution of mother’s culture degree, the time of going to bed at night, the times of having meat, the times of drinking milk and the situation of diet were statistically different between the stungting children and non-stunting children.3. In the first survey,41.83% of the children’s growth potential performaned poor, 31.11% of children’s growth potential performaned well. Comparing the environmental factors between the children whose potential of height perform well and the children whose potential of height perform poor, and we found that the distribution of the time of exercise, the times of having meat and the situation of diet were statistically different between two groups.[Conclusion]1. The height situations of the preschool children in the survey areas were better than the reference standard. There were regional differences.2. In the first survey, stunting rate was 1.40% and there was regional difference. More than half of the new stunting children’s height were in P3～P10 before six months ago. The preschool children should go to bed early and have a good appetite, thus can help to prevent the stunting.3. In the first survey,41.83% of the children’s growth potential performed poor. Height evaluation should be combined with the growth potential and genetic target height.The preschool children should do exercise more and have a good appetite, thus can help to promote children’s genetic potential of height to play better.
