Objective: To understand the growth and development state of preschool children in Changsha City urban districts and approach relative factors of childhood obesity. Methods: The cases were selected from 10 schools nursery in Changsha City urban districts by randomly cluster sampling. 2530 preschool children of 10 schools nursery were measured their body height and weight by unified instruments and methods, their growth and development states and malnutrition incidence were valued and judged by Z score method recommended by WHO, the definition of obesity was according to body height and standard weight method recommended by WHO. All 162 preschool children in obesity group and control group were chosen as study objects by case comparison method further. Investigation questionnaires including their general data, birth condition, feeding history in infancy, daily life condition and parents' condition etc were written by their parents. All data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software. Descriptive study, T-test, chi-square test and Logistic regression model were used in this research. Results: ( i ) In growth and development state, body height of 5 years old girl was lower than national general average. Low weight detection rate of study objects was 0.24%, growth retardation detection rate was 0.83% and athrepsy detection rate was 0.28%. (ii) In obesity incidence, overweight incidence was 8.22% (208/2530) . Obesity incidence was 7.51% (190/2530) . The obesity incidence was higher in boys than girls, and highest obesity incidence of girls was distributed at 4-5 years old. (iii) In logistic regression model of case control study, 6 variables were in turn weight when baby born, parturition style, pre-natal influence, subsidiary feeding time, activity condition, mother's education level. Conclusions: ( i ) Total growth and development state and nutrition condition of preschool children in Changsha City urban districts were better. Low weight, growth retardation and athrepsy detection rates were lower than natio al general average. But body height of 5 years old girl was lower than national general average. (ii) In preschool children in Changsha City urban districts overweight incidence was 8.22%. Obesity incidence was 7.51%. The obesity incidence was higher in boys than girls, and in 4-5 years old than other ages. (iii) The relative factors of preschool children obesity were miscellaneous. Its risk factor included weight when baby born, parturition style, pre-natal influence, subsidiary feeding time, activity condition, mother's education level.
