He selected and recorded a lot of the effective and simple prescriptions contrived before Southern Song Dynasty from more than170books like Zhenglei Bencao(Classified material medica), Taiping Shenghui Fang, Qiyu(Jivaka), Haishang Jiyan Fang(The effective formulary on the sea),Shenshi Fang,Jifeng Beiji Fang(Jifeng formulary for emergency),Waitai Miyao,Jingui Fang,Zhouhou Beiji Fang,Geshi Fang,etc.,to perfect this book.So it has a very high reference value no matter in terms of content, the version or clinical history of medicine. It is an important reference book for the research on medical books of the Song dynasty and tiding up some medical data that had been dropped.Beiji Zongxiao Fang is closely related with Zhenglei Bencao, there is a great similarity on content between them,however only3prescriptions in Beiji Zongxiao Fang has been explained clearly being quoted from Zhenglei Bencao.So it is necessary to trace back to the source of the other recipes.
