As the important supplementary and potential power in our medical service field,the private hospitals should show their good image to the public. However, the real rolesthey play are not satisfying: Both of the social and economic nature the private hospitalsinherent cannot be balanced and controlled, and their social responsibilities are ignoredgradually; some private hospitals’ business philosophy such as eager for quick successand instant benefits make them suffer the crisis of confidence and morality, so thepublic label them as deception; the irrational competition between the hospitals havedisrupted the normal order of medical service market. So the developments of privatehospitals in China which have been expected a lot seem to be no sign of achieving thegovernment and public’s desire.Through analyzing the misunderstandings that our private hospitals’ roles fall into,this paper will find out the deeper reasons which cause the misunderstandings. Startingfrom the angle of social policy and combining the real situation and dilemma in theprivate hospitals’ developing, this paper will discuss mechanism construction torestructure the private hospitals’ valuable social roles. Especially by strengthen thegovernment’ support and supervision, improving private hospitals’ internal mechanism,and building the social mechanism of interests, resources, sincerity and cooperativesupervision, let our private hospitals walk out of the misunderstandings and developtoward their ideal social roles.
