Research On The Changes Of Function Of Beijing Comprehensive Urban Park

Urban Parks are one kind of indispensable public spaces in modern city and they are also an important kind of leisure places for people. In the past half century, Beijing urban parks have experienced several ups and downs. Its content and function have changed a great deal. Comprehensive Parks, which appear early, large-scale, rich contents, can sum up the changes of the functions of Beijing City Park.This dissertation attempts to research the changes of Function of Beijing Comprehensive Urban Park. By analyzing examples, author finds that due to the impact of social-political and economic background and people's leisure concept, the comprehensive parks show different function orientation in different periods. Thus, the development of unban comprehensive parks can be separated into five phases, including before 1949-an education place serving upper middle class,1949-1957-combining political education and cultural rest,1958-1977-combining virescence and production,1978-the late 1980s-focusing on the commercial recreation functions, after the 1990s-emphasizing mass recreational functions.By straightening out the whole process, author analyzes that the function of Beijing comprehensive urban parks processes from a more complex stage to a simpler stage. And its development trend is leading by government power, while guiding by mass leisure.In the future, Beijing urban comprehensive parks should aim at establishing "cultural creativity parks", and endeavor to improve theirs leisure quality. Park managements must be led by market demand and taking enterprise-style operation in order to a better future.
