21 century is the era of knowledge economy. the comprehensive national power is depend on the quality of the peoples. So both Chinese Mainland and Taiwan Area are facing some kind of revolution of their education quality-the former is working hard at promoting quality-oriented education and the latter is putting open education into practice. Elementary education is the initial phase of the educational system, and inevitably the new concepts of education make higher requests to it. Classroom space have the largest number and most frequently used in the elementary school, and the space exert a subtle influence on the students and teacher's character and actions. A well designed classroom space is quite important for promoting the education quality and cultivating high-quality students. But now the researches which aimed at it are quite few. The main contents of this article included:1. Starting by the research of teaching concept history, and the analyzing of the same culture system in both shores to find the same foundation of educational reform and the same future direction:to cultivate the students with healthy personality which includes, innovation ability, self-respect and self-strengthening.2.Based on the first hand information of more than ten primary schools'field research, detailed analyzed the function division, installation, service condition of the classroom space in each school. Then the research conferred the features of the new style classroom space in Taipei-the open space classroom. At last, summarized the changes the schools had made to suit the new philosophy of education.3. Contract studied the both shores elementary schools from the angles of classroom designing norm, classroom area, the scale of students, functional divisions, service condition, ECT. For one thing to discuss the advantage changes and disadvantage situation of both sides elementary school's classrooms for suiting the educational development For another thing to study the development of classroom space and the educational philosophy., trying to find the certain pattern of variation.4. Based on the contract study., the article summarized the process of change in educational philosophy and the classroom space, and analyzed the characters of the variation. Also the research questioned the classroom design standard of mainland, and attempt to give advises for the future classroom design in Chengdu city.
