Urban Balcony is constructed on the terrace landforms of mountain area, while the view function endues the space unique meaning, both the two form the vernacular public space with high vitality. Consequently Urban Balcony was supposed to show the local character, broaden the urban open space and arouse more public activities, which can not be satisfied by its disordered situation at present. Under this backdrop, we focus on how to improve Urban Balcony with its various merits in order to cater to the needs of multi levels. Thus based on the development background, theories and spatial patterns of Urban Balcony, together with careful research, we raise the measures to rectify and reform that of the Yuzhong Peninsula. And then we deduce the general principles and design processes of Urban Balcony in the Mountainous cities. Urban Balcony should be a integrated space of specific site, view function and general character as public space.This dissertation is organized through the logical steps of: standpoint, basic analysis, detailed research, solution, and the conclusion.The first chapter introduces background, purpose, and significance of the research, as well as methodology and framework. This is the standpoint.Chapter II displays research region and content step by step: from the geographical background of Chongqing, Urban Image Design of Yuzhong Peninsula, to relative planing of Urban balcony. Then classify the research cases as the basic analysis process.Chapter III presents the merit and demerit of the nine cases in three function-dominated groups.
