Water as one of the indispensable material to human being, people reliance and yearning for water reflects the close relation of people and nature fully. Now modem urbanization calls for improvement both in urban public environment and in urban. landscape. One of the important ways employed by architects and landscape designers is to utilize water as a primary element in urban landscape design. The waterscape of urban open space is the most vitality place in the city environment. In a great deal of composition elements of water environment in the waterscape, the question on hydrotropism is the key to the reflecting characteristic of "water" .Regarding environment and landscape of the urban open space as the category of studying, We make comparatively overall and thorough researches on the theory principle and method system constructed to build the environment with close-to-water activity characteristic in this article. This paper takes close-to-water activity in the waterscape in the urban public open space as the object, based on the root of the close-to-water activity, researches about the differentiations of the east culture of close-to-water activity and the west, and the way human feel the water and the type of the close-to-water activity and other relative questions. limits to the close-to-water activity category, and from the user, the behavior characteristic, the space different angle has carried on the classification to the human close-to-water activity, and elaborated the natural environment, the artificial environment to the water affinity activity influence. To counter the space for close-to-water activity, the typical examples is combined to do further research about the construction of the space for close-to-water activity, the design of installation, evaluation for close-to-water activity and so on. Two typical examples in it is systematically analyzed on space, group of people, functions, shapes, and landscape and so on, what's more, there are evaluation methods of design and design principles put forward.
