Progress Management Of Dredging Projects

With the development and advancement of the society, dredging is becoming more and more important for social progress, economy development and environment protection, and its influences on the sustainable development of human being is getting more obvious. For dredging companies, project management especially progress management is turning into a crucial subject that directly affects to the existence and development of an enterprise.Dredging is a special and professional subject, and so are dredging projects. Up to now, few researches concerning project management especially progress management for dredging projects have been done yet. Based on existing practices and theories of project management from many forerunners in dredging industry and from ourselves, this article gives a systematic research on the progress management of dredging projects by demonstrating examples focusing on the features of dredging projects.Comparatively speaking, dredging project has less working procedures and can be easily influenced by weather condition, sea condition, ship machinery and other factors, so the progress management for dredging projects is different from of ordinary projects. Attentions must be specially paid to the calculation of dredging working time at the time of making progress scheme, and the management of all influential factors is the key of progress control. Progress scheme of dredging project should fully take into consider the change of natural conditions like weather, sea condition and geological condition and leaves"margins". The non-stop development of dredging technology is bringing higher production capacity to dredgers and also posing higher demand for our progress management. How to improve the production capacity of dredgers from technical aspect and to"dig up"the potential of dredging operation are also important content of progress management.Progress management of dredging projects is also in relation to management of safety, quality and technology. This article only discusses the progress management itself and doesn't include the management of safety, quality and technology. However, due to their close relation to progress management, they can also be categorized into the scope of macro progress management to some extent.
