With the rapid development of computer control technology, electronic information technology and network communication technology ,modern ship's automation has improved greatly, and has gradually formed ship comprehensive automation including the engine room automation, sailing automation, information integration and loading automation. The engine room auto-monitoring system is an important component of engine room automation, whose main function was the collection and management of the operating parameters, equipment state and malfunction information of engine rooms' equipment. The main innovation of this paper is that it applied wireless sensor networks to the ship. It designed a temperature monitoring system based on Wireless sensor networks, for collecting, dealing with and communicating temperature signals of ship engine rooms' equipment, and realized the function of integrate monitor, storage and print of the temperature parameters. The process of designing the system in this paper could be divided into three parts. Firstly, it designed and made the sensor node and sink node using MSP430F149 and nRF905, constructed the Wireless sensor networks hardware platform. The second, using Time Division Multiple Access manner as the communication protocol, it designed the the frame type and frame format of the communication command , the communication mode and the communication process. The third, based on Viual Basic 6.0, the computer monitoring software was designed to debug the temperature monitoring system, realized the temperature data inspection in real-time,and prove that the system is steady and feasible. This issue has a complete structure. It gave a fundamental resolution of the wireless sensor network design and application of software and hardware problems, creatively developed a new communication protocol for a small wireless sensor networks, and provided an effective solution for the ship's automatic monitoring system and other aspects applying wireless sensor networks.
