Lives of human beings origin from water. Towns' boom is also related with water. Theresearch and application of water has been put into building construction since ancient. As anarchitecture factor, water has been used in classic gardens widely. Furthermore, it is well developedand broadcasted. Thus the state of water is established. Nowadays, land for buildings in the citysuffers from the shortage. It is impossible to provide sufficient surrounding for each. However,people are eager for nature environment in the contemporary public buildings. As a typical naturesubstance, water, which has a close relationship with human beings, has been paid more and moreattention to by architects. Therefore, it is necessary and imperative to research on the integrateddesign of contemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding.The relationship between buildings and water, the elementary conception of architecturespace and artificial water surrounding and the characteristics of water are introduced in theexordium. Moreover, it also point out the theme of this dissertation is the research upon theintegrated design of contemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding. In the secondpart, the feature of water surrounding used in oriental and occidental classic gardens is analysed.Furthermore, the meaning to the principle of integrated design of contemporary public buildings andartificial water surrounding is explored respectively also. In the third part, the role, function andmode of the integrated design of contemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding areelaborated. In the fourth part, the combination mode and design method of integrated design ofcontemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding is formed, based on reading, analysisof the works designed by contemporary architecture masters, in which the artificial watersurrounding is designed successfully. In the last part, according to the analysis above, the principleof integrated design of contemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding is analyzedon the view of humanization, aesthetics and ecology. Furthermore, it is elaborated that the integrateddesign of contemporary public buildings and artificial water surrounding should satisfy the principleof human foremost, the principle of ecology and sustainable requirement. With the study above, thetheory and design method of the integrated design of contemporary public buildings and artificialwater surrounding are concluded, which can offer some help for future practice.
