Research On Contemporary Art's Influence On Urban Public Space Design

As an absolutely necessary type of space in a city, urban public space has showed its increasing importance on activities of daily life and communication in modern city nowadays, People of material need and the spirit demand exactly relied on the urban public space for carrying out probably, and Urban public space was considered as important component of urban life being full of art. In this aspect, Landscape designers in west had researched thoroughly and practiced extensively, but, the urban public space design still has some problems in our country currently.Under the globalization social context and seeing through a perspective of eastern-western communication, this paper bases on theories of public space in western cities, theories of modern aesthetics and theories of art of western landscape architecture, which are deemed as the three theories showing great influence on urban public space design in western cities. Along with the introduction of development of design theories influenced by modern arts, this paper selects them as the mainline of landscape art design on western public space. With analysis of public space design in western cities and investigating the practice in our country, proposals have been put up in this paper: sufficient research should be carried out on public space design concerning visual values, aesthetic values and overall qualities, so as to establish the beauty theories mechanism of urban public space following with the development of our own unique condition of our country and taking modernizing construction as a target.In the meantime, by pointing out current problems on urban public space in our country, including the situation of coping western experiences without serious consideration in design, this paper directs a way for development of public space design in our country.
