The public space of commercial center is a special branch of open space in city, it is also an important component of modern public space in city. It is not only a resident of shopping,leisure,entertainment, but also a window showing the city image, humanity scene, society concept. On the one hand, it has solved the problem of organically combining pedestrian,shopping and recreation together,letting people be the host instead of be the subordinate.On the other hand,because of people's inconsideration of users' humanistic needs both physically and psychologically , it has put much disadvantageous effect on the using and development of the public space of commercial center, such as traffic jam, insufficiency of walking space, monotonous landscape space and have not embodying enough the regional culture and characteristics of the city. Thus making it become not a mere multifunctional avenue,but an embodiment of caring users' humanistic needs .Therefore,it is the trends for the further development of commercial center to meet the psychological needs of users,to lay emphasis on the communication between people and people with nature.That makes designers reflect and explore how to design a best commercial space,and that is also the reason why writer has chosen this as his topic and elaborated on. There are six parts in this thesis:This chapter is about prologue,discussed background and the current research about commercial center.Discussed the purpose and significance of the research.1.This chapter first looks back the history of the public space of commercial center and the feature of each stage.2.By exploring the problems about process of modern commercial center development. Analysed problems which must be sloved now.3.This chapter gives a further exploration about all kinds of essential factors such as characteristic , function, design element and the man's behavior. Based on the analysis, the author gives some rational ways for creating high quality environment of the public space of commercial center.4.This chapter gives an example of the the public space of commercial center of Nanjing XinJieKou.It has roundly analysed problems about traffic, walk space,commercial layout, landscape.And this thesis has also been aimed at the relevance problem, brings forward reforming suggestion. I hope it will provide valuable experience to construction and develops of the public space of commercial center! 5.This chapter is about summaries.I explained some of my own research issues and some limitations of this thesis.
