Capital is usually the cultural, political, military and economic center of a dynasty, which reflects many aspects of a society, such as architecture, art and history. Based on the existing research fruits of Dadu and Shangdu in Yuan Dynasty and the reports on the archaeological excavation of Zhongdu in the same dynasty, the thesis centres on the comparison of the construction systems of the three capital cities.Yuan Dynasty (including Mongolia State) seted up four capital cities successively: Hacihelin , Shangdu, Dadu and Zhongdu. By comparing all the research conditions of these 4 cities, we could find that academic circles made more research on Hacilin, Shangdu and Dadu than on Zhongdu, because it only existed for a comparatively short time and it was not until 1999 that it was discovered that is why it didn't attract enough attention of academic circles. However it couldn't be ignored in that it was not only an imperial city, but also was of great value in terms of history, archaeology, city planning and architecture. But unfortunately the research on this aspect is only at its primary stage, and that is why we should pay more attention to it. Through comparing Zhongdu with other cities in the same dynasty, we can have a supplyment research on imperial city construction of Yuan Dynasty. For years, there had been not so many monographs of city construction, so this thesis is a very important supplement, and it will help us to have a deep understanding of imperial city construction in Yuan Dynasty. Ancient cities, as a very important component of splendid Chinese culture, their historical and easthetic significance, especially the philosophical ideas, still has a meaning to the modern city planning.
