More and more emphasis of vernacular architecture has turned in from research in terms of the evaluation of traditional single body to research in terms of the settlement. The settlement is not a aggregate which include some isolated buildings, but an organic whole, and also the outside performance of the mankind's world. Therefore This article aims at the settlement—the multiform habitations of the minority who live in north of Guangxi province—to carry on the research, from the analysis to these settlements'space structure, the paper search their identification characteristic and main factors, clarify their relations of inner parts and exterior network, And hopes to comprehend traditional settlements of Guangxi more systematical and more completely. The article includes five chapters altogether. First it analyses the factor which influence the settlement space—natural environment, cultural background, economic factor and political factor. Second, aiming at the space appearance of the settlement, it analyzes their addressing, inner part and exterior space composing and appearances. The third, by use of Kevin Lynch's city space theories and the network theories the article research the space image and settlement networks. In the end, through analysis for some example the article put forward the suggestion of the principle and measure of the settlement space's protection and exploitation. The article pays attention to integrate the space, the natural environment and the humanities environments; also pays attention to integrate the protection and exploitations. Base on those the article put research to the minority settlement space which locate in north of Guangxi province. The article hopes that some available revelation can be found for research of vernacular settlement.
