The estuary of Pearl River delta is often eroded by high frequent tide current and hurricane, and the rivers banks are also corroded by continually ship wave. People plant wave break forest on the floodplains to damp the waves, reduce the bank erosion and protect the floodplain. It has proved to be a kind of practical method. Today more people are interested in this protect embank technology, because it meets the need in environment, technique and economy. At present, There are not many research results on damping waves about vegetation embankment, the disciplinarian and mechanism of damping wave by vegetation still not clearly, so dose the systemic research. And the nearshore break wave process is extremely complex, the wave and plant's interaction is the theoretically difficult problem and the research front topic, Thus the mathematical simulation also very difficult. Now the prototype observation and physical model experiment is the effective research method. Based on achievement of study wave damping and the characteristics of Pearl River delta banks and floodplain, the generalized physical model of banks and floodplain was designed. According to the local hydrological condition simulated the wave of river by regular and irregular waves from the wave generator. In the physical experiment, we used the rigid tick and vegetation with flexible branches to simulate the wave protection trees on the floodplains, selected the principal factors, determined the suitable geometric proportion, then analyzed the effect of vegetation function on damping waves. Based on the measured data, analyzed the wave height attenuation quotient, swash height, the maximum wave pressure distribution on the bank and the bottom velocity before the vegetation on the floodplain, and it provided fundamental theorem for actual applications.
