Tower cranes as a major transport machine are being made greater use of in the process of modern construction. Especially along with the rapid develop of the architecture industry; the structure of tower cranes has been developed toward higher, bigger and intelligent. But tower crane accidents often take place and the death rate is high. The security of tower cranes has been important problem that has been threaten builders' life and state property. Thus, on-time montoring of tower cranes' running state is urgently demanded.In this paper, by analysis and study lots of information about tower cranes accidents, some major parameters that most important for cranes running state montoring were confirmed, therefore, on-time monitoring becomes feasible. Put foreward new measurement about lifting moment and lifting capacity, and the model of measurement has been educed. Neural network be used to solve nonlinear problem of measurement. The new model of lifting moment measure makes calculate simpleness and the result is satisfied. In the monitoring system, we make use of Programmable Logic Controller as a kernel to form monitoring and contol integrative, thus build up the stability and reliability of crane. At last, we do some work in PLCs net. Using host computers control PLCs, it can monitor PLC's I/O status, middle process variable, system information and tower cranes' running status parameters. There are other functions that can control PLC's I/O status and tower cranes' on-line control which are useful when repair and examine tower cranes. Using virtual instrument technic and LabVIEW software plantform to construct VI system and that makes a well-grounded foundation for cranes fault diagnosis.In this paper a new model of measurement about tower cranes lifting moment and lifting capacity was given, and resolved the norlinear problem in measurement of cranemoment and lift, the practice proved that is feasible. Using virtual instrument technic to construct VI systems and that makes a well-grounded foundation for farther fault diagnosis about crane running state.
