With the rapid development of national economy, tower cranes have been widely used. Nowadays, as high-rising buildings, super-high buildings and large-scale construction projects become more and more popular, the lifting height, weight, moment and the handcart change range of a tower crane are all expected to increase. Therefore, the safe performance of a tower crane is taken seriously. Serious accidents occur each year. In order to improve the work efficiency and safety of tower cranes, and reduce casualties and economic losses at the same time, various protective facilities are installed on the tower cranes to monitor their performance. So research into the safety protective facilities on the tower cranes, especially the dynamic monitoring system is more and more important. With the advancing of microcomputer and computer, real-time condition monitoring system of tower cranes is worked out by applying imbedded single-chip computer, observing and controlling technology, and wireless network. Under this system, tower cranes work more safely and stably, and the controlling system becomes more accurate. The safety, stability and accurate controlling of a tower crane are very vital to improve its work efficiency, reduce accidents and analyze troubles. This paper studies the monitoring system of the wireless network-based town cranes and their hardware and software design. By using single-chip computer, the current value of the tower cranes' working-status parameter is displayed in the form of figures and graphs. When the parameter value goes beyond the rating, the system gives an alarm and the power will be shut off. The working condition of individual tower cranes can be transmitted to the host monitoring computer through the wireless network. Collisions between cranes may be avoided by the remote monitoring. In view of the characteristics of computer monitoring system, such as the components, the hardware circuit, software structure and the software program, the reliability of the single-chip computer is realized through anti-jamming. By analyzing the data-collecting channel of the system, the non-linear compensation for the weight-measuring channel is achieved. Besides, the paper analyzes the method of filtering the dynamic-load of weight. Reliable data communication between PC and single-chip microcomputer is realized in Delphi7. By means of debugging the hardware and software, it is verified that the working condition monitoring system of a tower crane is feasible and affective.
