Study On The Architecture Of Catholic Churches In Beijing Area

As a kind of foreign architectural forms, the buildings of Catholic churches make Chinesearchitectural culture richer and witness the exchange and integration between western architecturalculture and Chinese traditional cultural. They play a special role in the development of modernarchitectures in China.The thesis researches on seventeen Catholic churches existing in Beijing area systematically,including their historical and social background, development process, locations, art achievements,architectural features and so on.Additionally, the thesis also makes comparison and appraisal ofthem from the angle of building typology.Although the Catholic churches in Beijing area are muchsimpler than western churches in architectural technology and art, they still contain the similarproportion, composition elements and motif. Uniting the characteristics of Chinese traditionalarchitecture, these buildings present a unique architectural form combinated with the East and theWest.
