Belt Conveyor is the machine which can transport the materials continuous, and it is composed by drive unit ,conveyor, roller, tensioning devices, racks, rollers, loading device, unloading device, formed part of cleaning, and so on. The structure is simple. It can change into kinds of shape according to the condition. So Belt Conveyor has been used in various industrial sectors.The drive unit is one of the most important components and the design of it will directly impact on machine performance. So the design of the drive unit is essential throughout the entire design process of belt conveyor. At the seam time, the drive unit is also common component of the belt conveyor, that the components of it has been serialized and standardized. So it is a trend for using modular design of drive unit.The main content of this paper is to design of belt conveyor drive unit firstly, including calculation of driving power, the number and combination patterns of drives, the arrangement of driving method, the selecting and checking of the component and so on. Secondly, the drive unit is divided into several parts for using modular technology in order to make the every part independently. So its will combination freely. Thirdly, the CAD system of belt conveyor drive unit is finished with Visual Basic 6.0, which integrated the technology of further development of Solidworks, parametric modeling and ADO. Eventually, The CAD system will achieve the aim that can design the drive unit rapidly, draw three-dimensional model automatically, and realize the automatic assembly of different modules. So the system will improve design efficiency and reduce design costs.This system has powerful database supports that have established the drive unit parts database, the installation dimensions database of the drive unit parts and so on. So this made the system perfectly and practically.
