With the continuous development of society and economy in the metropolis, its traffic congestion problem becomes more and more serious. In order to address root causes of this problem, a new urban development pattern named "Multi-center pattern", in which new town becomes an important carrier to share the population and traffic pressure of center city in some metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In order to make towns have the "anti-magnetic force" to resist the "magnetic force" from center city, a new traffic system, which will support the development of new town, should be explored. With this traffic system, a relatively independent and effective connection between the center city and the new town can be constructed; this traffic system will promote the rapid development of new town and also share the population and traffic pressure of center city.In this thesis, characteristics of passengers have been analyzed based on the conception of new town and center city, passenger transport demand has also been derived; after the analysis of passenger transport selection mode factors, characteristics of various transport modes and their application scope, passenger transport mode is determined with the selection model; based on the selected transport mode, multi-objective traffic optimization model is constructed, with AHP and fuzzy mathematical method, the parameters are determined. In the end, the model is solved so that the proportion of that each traffic mode should share the total traffic is determined. Finally, to verify the feasibility and effectiveness, the example of transportation mode selection and traffic structure optimization between Beijing and Tongzhou is given. Based on the solution of the optimization model, suggestions are given to the transportation development between Beijing and Tongzhou.
