The value of culture lies in the innovative exploration based on inheritance. Now days, due to the social development, both the new and old culture are alternating with each other much more frequently .However, the conservation and reuse of old buildings has already become a common problem we are facing ever since the World Warâ…¡and its theoretical system, technological ploys and related law and regulation all have made a considerable progress after experiencing a period of development.This paper consists of six chapters. Introduction section. In this section, the origin of this subject, the purpose and significance of the research has been mainly elaborated and meanwhile, both the domestic and foreign related research has been arrayed and finally the research methods have been concluded. While connecting with my personal major, I chose to make a research on the point of spatial image which is relatively weak in the theoretical level from different directions of old architecture research.The first chapter refers to the related theories and methods and the literature review. In this section, the concept of protection of old industrial buildings has been introduced into the subject of protection of old buildings. Meanwhile, the history of development of old industrial buildings and the problems met in the current situation and development process have been elaborated and briefly introduced. And finally, the research on the reconstruction of spatial Image of old Industrial buildings has been decided to be the content of this research.In the second chapter, the concept of reconstruction of spatial Image of old Industrial buildings has been interpreted. In this section, this paper has introduced the concept of spatial image and summarized that the regionalism, era, uniqueness, spatial modeling and the site spirit can become the dominant elements of spatial image. Meanwhile, this paper has quoted the related literature and the artistic expression means to do an analogy and finally summarized some expression means of reconstruction of spiritual image such as the objective realism, subjective and impressionistic, exaggerated deformation and symbols.The third chapter has analyzed the application of spatial images in the old industrial buildings through taking examples. Two successful cases of both domestic and foreign transformation of old industrial buildings have been introduced and the related experiences have been learned while weakness and disadvantages have been concluded. Furthermore, the influence of spatial images on the reconstruction of old industrial buildings has also been analyzed base on those two cases above.The forth chapter has analyzed the reconstruction of spatial images of old industrial buildings under various levels. In this section, the reconstruction of spatial images has been detailed elaborated and analyzed separately through the aspects of regional and urban spatial dimension, the dimension of buildings and surrounding space and the dimension of internal architectural space, while being mainly demonstrated through the ways of theoretical analysis and case analysis.The fifth chapter is about the application of spatial images in the transformation of some parts of the rolling factories of Xuelang in Wuxi. The personal result of research has been further interpreted while connecting with one of the author's project exhibition. This chapter has two parts, the real situation of case has been introduced in the first part, the idea that the buildings should be conserved in order to regain the value of reconstruction has been established in this section and meanwhile various data has been analyzed and cited in order to provide the evidences that the building should be retained. In the second chapter, connecting with the research result of the study above, this paper has elaborated that how to connect with the concrete case to carry out the systematic in-depth research through three aspects of urban spatial dimension ,the dimension of buildings and surrounding space and the dimension of internal architectural space.
