Plum (Prunus mume) is one of the essential element in Landscape Architecture. Moreover, plum is one of the most unique landscape plants. Because of its rich species, wide distribution and profound cultural implications, plum is frequently used in Chinese landscape architecture to be a representative element of garden in South China style. This thesis focuses on the design methodology of plumscape from site selection, artistic conceptual plan, and layout and detail design based on plum's biological, cultural, aesthetic and spatial characteristics with abundant case studies.In site selection, it is proposed to explore the plum design based on the respect for picturesque charm and cultural heritage and the biological, spatial, functional and aesthetic characteristics.Artistic conceptual plan concentrates on structure and characters of plumscape conception characterized by culture, and how nature and culture act on building artistic ambience, so as to capture the characteristics of plum and strengthen them.The part of layout mainly discusses how to make the landscape appropriate from the spatial composition and sequences, color composition, visual approaches, sequential organization and functional usage of plumscape.The detail design covers the color, texture, pavement and ornaments in plumscape, and the integration between plum and other landscape elements.Based on the research above, the recommendations of plumscape design principals and design guidelines are made.
