After opening up the new routes, The American rich natural resources have attracted a lot of Europeans into the New World, the immigrants started to exploit the nature. The US is established by 13 colony foundations, but with the economic development, the natural resource encounters the huge destruction. The natural scientist and the thinker first realized that the seriousness of the problem, they actively promoted environmental protection; John Muir is one of them. Muir deeply loves the nature since childhood, after the grown-up he wandered in wilderness many years. Muir realized the rights of nature and natural aesthetic values, he advocated using the Park to preserve primitive wilderness for recreating the people. So Muir devoted his life to the national park. He led the natural preservationists to promote the establishment of Yosemite National Park, set up the Sierra Club, guard the Yosemite National Park, return the canyon to the federation, and defend the Hetch Hetchy valley. Simultaneously, for stimulating people to love the nature, he wrote a great deal of travel diaries and calling for protection natural article. Muir nature conservation behavior has affected the American start to care the nature, participate in the protection struggle. Muir has made the great contribution for the national park, so called him the US"Father of the National Parks". This paper mainly analysis Muir's Conservation thought and his contribution.The paper Introduction part summarized domestic and foreign research situation of John Muir, proposed this paper's frame.The text elaborates with four chapters: The first chapter is the budding of US natural conservation in the mid and late of 19th century, introduced the American destructed the natural resource in using, because the people developed blindly and wasted seriously. This time, one group of scientists and the thinkers propagandize the natural conservation positively. The government and the people also start to care about the natural conservation. Meanwhile people begin preserve primitive wilderness in park form.The second chapter elaborates the wilderness protection thought formation of John Muir. In his childhood, he deeply loves the wilderness. In the university period he has accepted system's nature knowledge, has known some scientists'elaboration of Person and nature relations. Muir love nature so deeply that he wandered in wilderness. Muir natural philosophy formed in the wilderness; simultaneously he saw nature was destroyed excessively. In that case his wilderness protection thought formed finally. The third chapter elaborates Muir leading the conservation of national park. They advanced the establishment of Yosemite National Park, set up the Sierra Club, guarded the Yosemite National Park, returned the California Yosemite canyon to the federation, defended Hetch Hetchy valley. Muir leads the Sierra Club and other nature preservationists to struggle with every special interest group; the US national parks protection makes the very big progress.The fourth chapter elaborates the influence of Muir's protecting of park to the American environmental conservation movement. The American people participate in protection positively; people's environmental consciousness was enhanced. Later nature preservationists continued developing wilderness preservation movement with Muir's natural conservation principle. The US government takes the natural conservation establishing the numerous forest reserves and setting up the national parks management bureau.The conclusion part makes summary of Muir life. Muir is respected the US"Father of the National Parks", and he deserves our admiration.
