John Muir is the foregoer of conservation movement in America,he raised a kind of ideology containing ample ecological idea,which provides a new perspective of the relationship between people and nature,and is called “The father of the National Park of the United States”.His whole-life experience is regarded as the reflection of environmental resources protection and the primary development of national park in American modern history.His thought and practice can help us learn about the procedure of national park development and investigate the relationship between people and nature when studying ecological civilization.This is also helpful for attempt and exploration of National Park building in China.This paper research on Muir's ecological thought and practice.Firstly,this thesis began with the formation of Muir's ecological thought and then analyzed the influence in three aspects: social background,life environment and thinking origin.Secondly,this paper focused on ‘nature' and investigated the content of Muir's ecological thought in four aspects:the understanding of nature,the value of nature,the right of nature and the protection of nature.Thirdly,this paper analyzed Muir's ecological practice as the key point and recorded the outstanding contribution in ecology protection movement,such as Sierra Club establishment,Hetch Hetchy Reservoir revolt,popularize national park concept,Yosemite establishment and so on.Finally,the enlightenment was summarized from theoretical value and practical value and methods to build construction ecological civilization during the start-up stage in China were raised.
