The Design Of Spatio-temporal Database For Folk Culture And The Research Of Cultural Map System

Along with modern civilization's expansion, the living environment of folk culture is under the impact and worsens day by day. As carry-over of human-culture history, the folk culture is precious material to study the development of human culture and has high value. At present, the protection and research of folk culture is more and more important to men's attention. How to use the latest digital information and network technology to strengthen the protection of folk culture and research is an important topic. With the idea of culture-space integration and culture-ecology, this paper try to use the geographical information system (GIS) technology to pack up resources of folk culture and to establish a spatio-temporal database of folk culture from the perspective of geographical space. We can use the Internet to make culture-map come true, so that we can get a web browser,inheritance,census and coordination study of cultural resources.Considering the limitations on the data compilation of the current folk culture, this paper analyses the characteristics of folk culture with the idea of culture-ecology, uses the GIS technology and designs spatio-temporal model of folk culture with the idea of culture-space integration to establish the multimedia database, so that we can storage,search and use the folk-culture data effectively. This paper designs an object-relationship spatio-temporal model of folk culture. With the support of ArcGIS9.0 software and VB and ArcObjects, we develops a spatio-temporal database of the temple culture in Henan based on Geodatabase, so we can storage,manage,search and browse the spatio-temporal data of folk culture. Considering the common base of folk culture ,this paper also designed a culture-map based on WebGIS technology and the Internet , so that we can search,browse folk culture and transmit it with the help of network. According to the idea of Cooperative GIS , we can provide an open platform to allow users to edit or add object on the culture-map.Case studies show that: First, using the GIS technology to integrate and organize folk culture from the perspective of space, we can cover the limitations of having packed up folk culture on time or theme yesterday.Second, the spatio-temporal database design based on geodatabase can express the basic characteristics,location and time features,multimedia information of folk culture ,so that we can storage,search and browse data information freely. Third, we can make thematic mapping of the culture-map and space analysis by the geographical-background data, so that we can reflect the distribution and spatio-temporal characteristics of folk culture directly and vividly. Forth, the culture-map, which is based on WebGIS and Internet technology, makes the function of Web Browser and a space analysis of the folk-culture-map come true. The exchanging and cooperative edit between different usere provide a new way for the research and packing up of the folk culture data, as well as a exchanging platform for collaborative culture-research.This paper composed of seven parts. Chapter 1 is the introduction, describing the significance and the status of folk culture, also the problem in current preservation on the issue;summarizing the research and the significance. Chapter II is the review of the literature, recalling the relevant culture-studies and related technology progress. Chapter III is about the research-methods on theoretics ,technology and design, also the development tools of software and the technical routes.Chapter IV is the characteristics analysis of folk culture and with the idea of culture-ecology, also abstracts and summarizes its characteristics. Chapter V is a design of spatio-temporal database on an object-relationship spatio-temporal model with the idea of culture spatio-temporal integration . It is about studying the expression of spatio-temporal data and multimedia data and makes the spatio-temporal database of folk culture which is based on Geodatabase come true. Chapter VI is the study of culture-map about folk culture based on WebGIS. It is about to analysis,design the culture-map and to achieve the main function of the culture-map. Chapter VII is summarizes the result , major innovation and research prospect..
