Internet has become one of the most important external influences on the development of GIS, and the impact has become more profound with the development of its own. Spatial analysis, human-computer interaction, data update and real time response are main objects in the equipment information management, so it is necessary to utilize both WebGIS, which was born from internet, and visulization of information for the requirement of Office Automation and Resources Sharing. In this article, equipment information management and sharing have been achieved in the system based on GIS data storage, spatial analysis, attribute inquiry and map operation by network technology, WebGIS technology and cartographic visualization.The detailed content includes the following items:Firstly, the article analyzes the development and application status of WebGIS and equipment management information system, then describes the background, purpose and main content as well.Secondly, the article takes the Equipment Information Sharing and Management Systems of East China Normal University as an example. In order to provide accurate, detailed and dynamic information for the whole school and society, it makes an analysis of system requirements and builds project. The article studying on the characteristics of ArcIMS which has been chosen as the platform of the system, collecting and dealing with the data which is needed, designs the functions of the system.Thirdly, the thematic map symbols and system interface are also designed to complete the system.Fourthly, the article discusses WebGIS and the related basic technologies. It makes an intensive study of the structure and technology of WebGIS, analyzing several major models of WebGIS and making comparison of them.Finally, the article summarizes some technical problems and major problems that needs further study by the practice of the system-building process.
