Research On The Development And Application Of WebGIS Based On ArcIMS

WebGIS (Web Geographical Information System) can be defined as "GIS on the Web", which is interactive, distributed and dynamic. Because of many advantages and popularity, WebGIS has already become one of the most important aspects in GIS research. Now WebGIS is widely used in many fields and will continue to play important roles in the future. After analyzing many WebGIS Websites home and abroad according to their application fields, the author believes WebGIS can be divided into two groups, namely the public-service oriented WebGIS and the specialization oriented WebGIS. Then the thesis discusses separately the possible key problems, which might be met during WebGIS software development, in such two categories of WebGIS detailedly. The thesis also reviews the present solutions concerning the key problems and put forward the author' own solutions by finding their flaws. Consequently, the thesis give an example for each kind of WebGIS and introduces the author' own solutions amply via the examples.The thesis is composed of five chapters and each chapter is arranged as flows:Chapter 1: introduction. This chapter mainly introduces the basic characteristics, relevant technology, research headways and the application fields of WebGIS. Then, the chapter elicits the author' research contents and its meaning.Chapter 2: the introduction of ArclMS. This chapter mainly introduces the characteristics, systematic structure, operation mechanism and the links of ArclMS.Chapter 3: give an example for the public-service oriented WebGIS, namely car home forum WebGIS. The Chapter introduces the whole development process through the system's demand, goal, design and key technology. During the introduction, the chapter gives emphasis to the author' own solutions, which include the positioning of road junction, the positioning of doorplate number and the application of VML in WebGIS.Chapter 4: give an example for the specialization oriented WebGIS, namely Chongming Dongtan Nature Reserve WebGIS.
