An Research On Dynamics Of Landscape Pattern In Tarim Huyang Reserve

While as a representation of desert ecosystem, Tarim Populus Reserve is experiencing deep changes due to climte change and human activities in decades years, recently: discharge diminishing, crop field rising rapidly, area of lake and swamp degrading seriously and desertification, etc. The problems in reserve are synthetic, involving conditions of nature, society and economy; development of water resource, vegetation cover, soil erosion and landscape change of the whole drainage area of Tarim river. So, it is meaningful that Reserve is aimed as interest area to reflect the environmental change of the whole drainage.Combining RS, GIS and field and history data, this article use approaches of statistics and landscape space pattern to analyze the environmental changes of reserve between 1973 and 2000, and present some suggestions for troubleshooting. At the same time, this article tries to find out distribution of populus through extracting shade of populus from Quickbird image.The results show that from 1973 to 2000, changes in landscape are: (1) Water resource starvation, water area diminishing heavily, though state has strengthened management to water resource, the effect is not so obvious. (2) Desert size and low vegetation cover just decreased a little, but high vegetation cover has heavy lost, while crop field is increasing rapidly, desertification is in process. (3) Analyzing different partitions of reserve show that landscape changes are synchronized. (4) The whole changes in landscape pattern are that patch density is increasing, patch shape becomes complicated and patch distribution tends to be discreet. (5) The converting each other of landscape classes is complex.Also, comprehensive factors are shaping the environment of the reserve, they have big effect on the landscape pattern; society and economy, and the intense disturbances owing to human activities mainly focus on the river sides.Decision makers should do some jobs in river corridors construction, sustainable landscape construction and regulation of agriculture structure based on principle and methodology of landscape ecology. This article provides some ideas and approaches that can be thought about in other similar researches.The approach that extracts shade of populus from Quickbird is a simple, time-saving, and highly practical approach.
