Pangquangou Natural Reserve lies in Guandi Hills in the west of Shanxi Province. It was established to protect Crossoptilon mantchuricum, Larixprincipis-rupprechtii, Picea meyeri and Picea wilsonii. The core area is also a touring region, which is vulnerable to human activities. For this reason, it is an important place for the protection and the research of biodiversity. This thesis makes a systematic analysis to the vegetation landscape elements and patches. With the help of CIS, the vegetation map was processed and the data of the eleven vegetation landscape elements were obtained. After the analysis, we got the following results: the zonal vegetation landscape is the warm temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest landscape. However, due to the influence of latitude, the cold-temperate coniferous forest landscape is the major landscape. In terms of distribution characteristics, the conditions of light and warmth are the key factors determining the elements and their distribution in the core area. The forest landscape elements cover a quite large area, nevertheless, the areas of various elements are extremely uneven, and their perimeters demonstrate the same regularity as well. The fact that the border densities of the forest landscape elements are not so great shows that the fragmentation degree of the forest landscape is small and connectedness is good. The analysis of the landscape element diversity in the core area shows that the diversity is rather low while the dominance rather high. All these demonstrate that the difference in the coverage of various elements is rather big and only a few elements are dominant. It can be learned that in the core area scale the fragmentation degree of each element is not very big, yet the difference among them is fairly big, while for the whole researching area, a rather high integrity is manifested. In the landscape element scale, the discrepancy between the fragmentation degrees of each element is quite small. The sequencing of the degrees of fragmentation and isolation of each element is, on the whole, the same as the sequencing of border densities. According to the analysis, the above three factors have an extremely significant positive correlation in the same scale. The difference between the average areas and the average perimeters of the patches of each element is quite small. The shape index tends to increase with growth of the patch area. The shape of patches is somewhat related to their distributing way. On the two sides of a valley, the shapes are mainly long and narrow; while the shapes of small patches are more similar to round. Furthermore, the fractals show that the forest landscape is interfered quite greatly by human activities. From the results, we can conclude that the vegetation landscape in the core area can provide a quite appropriate living environment for Crossoptilon mantchuricum, but the rather big difference between the areas of each landscape element, the quite low diversity, the rather high degree of dominance as well as the influence of human activities are all the problems to be solved in the future management of the Natural Reserve.
