Botanical Garden is a general entity which involves natural science and social science, which contains species protected, scientific development, popularization of science, tourism and so on. Digital Botanical Garden is a general information management platform, providing services for species protected, scientific development, popularization of science and produce management, with which we can rebuild botanical garden on computer with Virtual Reality Technology, centrally manage all information hi botanical garden, Digital Botanical Garden is a general system which composed of network construction, software of Digital Botanical Garden, Office automation and web construction.During the research on Shenzhen Botanical Garden Digital Botanical Garden System (BGGIS), we have accomplished the version 1.1 of BGGIS. BGGIS apply Local network C/S structure, which contains the following contents: Plant Resource Management Module, Specimen Information Module, Seed Resource Management Module, Lab Mangement Module, Ancient Museum Module, Popularization of Science and Tourism Module, Scientific Porjects Management Module and System Management Module. Major works are as following:1. Analyze the importance of information management in botanical garden and unique superiority of using GIS technique in management of botanical garden;2. Put forward the concept of Digital Botanical Garden and design target of BGGIS system;3. Using software engineering principle to analyze the structure of BGGIS and explicit the functions of BGGIS system, accomplish the designs of the following: system structure, database system, system interface, internet information announcement; develop the module of BGGIS;4. Solve the following problems of key techniques: design of botanical garden plant information structure, loading method and optimization method of raster layer and vector layer, use of MapObjects to develop the function of special subject and editing of essential factor and spatial search, general function of search and statistics in database sheets, print function of DataGrid;5. Analyze the problem exist in BGGIS Version 1.1 and work out the ways of solving the problem; put followd the propose and give excellent prospects of BGGIS development in future.The construction of Digital Botanical Garden System will be a long course. And these will be will be vast prospectives in botanical garden management.
