The Returned Students And The Systematization Of The Modern Geology In China

The systematization of Chinese science is not originated from China, but from West through transplantation. The systematization of Chinese geology represents the general mode of modern science and technology transplanted into China, in which the returned students played an important role . This paper, based on the returned students' activities from 1840 to 1949, tries to collect the available materials, by means of quantitative and qualitative analysis of the historic materials of Chinese geology including the construction of the scientific community and the research establishment, the development of the higher education and the international academical exchange, recognizes the role which the returned students played in the process of the systematization of Chinese modem geology ,and shows the great contributions they made .
