Study On The Method Of Rural Landscape Classification

As the foundational research of landscape ecology, landscape classification is not only the base of the research on landscape structure and function, is also the prerequisite for landscape evaluation, landscape planning and landscape design, which integrates the landscape theories and practices properly. The progress of the theories and methods of landscape classification reflects the development level of discipline of the whole landscape ecology to a great extent.Having combined the basic characteristics of the rural landscape of our country, This research aims at setting up a kind of method of rural landscape classification based on small scale, so that it is beneficial to reflect the current situations of rural landscape, disclose the questions and deficiencies existing in the rural landscape, and serve rural landscape planning and mapping finally.After having reviewed, analyzed and discussed the history and advances of research on theories and methods of landscape classification between our country and others, based on the basic theories, principles and foundations, The paper combined the current situations and characteristics of the rural landscape of our country, put forward a kind of method of rural landscape classification named the method of functional and configurational classification which served rural landscape planning of small scale. This method includes four-layer classification system of landscape region, landscape type, landscape subtype and landscape unit. Meanwhile, this text further carried on the research on the theories and methods of rural landscape mapping.The paper selects Baijiataun village and Beizhai village which have diversiform landforms and land use types as the typical regions of positive research, classifies the detailed landscape type to these two villages separately by the method of function and configuration of rural landscape. As a result, 1 landscape region, 3 landscape types, 9 subtypes and 28 landscape units are to be classified in the Baijiatuan village. As far as Beizhai village is concerned, its four-layer classification system includes 1 landscape region, 3 landscape types, 9 landscape subtypes and 32 landscape units. On this basis, with the aid of GIS named Supermap, according as the landscape classification system of Baijiatuan village and Beizhai village, the maps of landscape classification of these two villages are drawn. The results of landscape classification indicate that the classification of function and configuration of rural landscape is a comprehensive and applied method which can meet the requirements of both rural landscape planning and rural landscape mapping of large scale, further, embody the characteristics of rural landscape in China. Its landscape units which are classified by physiognomy and land use unit not only take on obvious characteristics of spatial configurations and relative single land utilization types, but also its classification indicators can be quantified easily. It not just takes nature factors and human factors which have effect on rural landscape classification into account, but also reflects various kinds of landscape types existing actually.
