The slope spectrum of the Loess Plateau and its spatial distribution are explored deeply by the theory and methodology of the Geo-information Tupu in this dissertation. In the first, an academic concept of the slope spectrum was firstly put forward. The slope spectrum is defined as a statistic graph or a mathematical model with its X-axis denoting the numerical value of the slope factors (e.g. gradient, aspect or curvature etc.) and its Y-axis the corresponding area on the ground in a specific statistic area. As gradient is the most important one of all slope factors, the gradient spectrum is no doubt the most representative one and taken as a key research content in this dissertation. Just like spectrum can discern the object and their property detected, the slope spectrum can distinguish the types and their geomorphologic characteristics of the research area effectively, too; especially the spatial distribution of the slope spectrum, as well as their inherent law of the terrain complexity and the development of geomorphology can also be dig out. In the second, taken the Loess Plateau of North Shaanxi Province as the research area, this dissertation investigated the composing, types and the extraction method of the slope spectrum, analyzed the main influencing factors of extraction of the slope spectrum and the existing condition of the slope spectrum, as well as ascertained the critical area at which the slope spectrum can exist stably. The author paid more attention to investigate the spatial distribution of the slope spectrum in the Loess Plateau. An expected law revealed the spatial distribution of the slope spectrum from north to south at the Loess Plateau of North Shaanxi Province. A converting model of slope gradient derived from two different map scale DEMs was found, which can be used for rectifying gradient errors and revealing the terrain representation accuracy of slope spectrum at different map scale levels. In conclusion, the slope spectrum brought forward in this dissertation could be proved of critical significance theoretically and practically. The author suggested more work should be done that will be sure to make a great stride in the exploration of the Geo-information Tupu newly developed by Chinese scholars in recent years.
