The Meizi Lake scenic spot is situated at 4.8km Southeast of Simao city(at 100 19' -101 27' E and 22 27' -23 06' N). It is one of the largest scenic spots in Siniao Region. The numerical classification, analysis of species diversity and interspecific association of the forest in Meizi Lake area were conducted.1. A variety of methods including the tabular comparison of data, the tabular comparison of similarity coefficient, the nearest neighbor method and the group-average method of hierarchical agglomerative classification were applied to investigate the forest communities in Meizi Lake area. From the results of the classification, the 14forest plots in Meizi Lake area were divided into three vegetation types and five formations . Three vegetation types included evergreen broadleaved forests, warm conifer forests and corfferous-broadleaved mixed forests, five formations included pinus Kesiya Var.langbiaen$is formation, Castanopsis hystrix pinus kesiya var.langbiaensis formation, Castanopsis hystrix formation, Castanopsis carlesii formation, Castanopsis hystrix Castanopsis microcar Betula alnoides formation. The vegetations and the forests in Meizi Lake area had apparent secondary characteristics due to human influences. The vegetation was chiefly dominated by coniferous-brodleaved mixed forests, with many evergreen broadleaved species in their young growth stage, it can be suggested that the vegetations in the Meizilake area were ina successional stage from coniferous-broadleaved mixed forests to evergreen broadleaved forests. However, the formation of the climax community evergreen broadleaved forests needs a long time.2. Species richness, Simpson index, Shannon-weiner index, and pielou index were used to study the species diversity of forests in Meizi Lake area. The results were following:(l)Generally, all four indices showed the similar variation patterns in species diversity;(2) Generally speaking, the order of species diversity indices changed with the pattern: shrub layer tree layer herb layers;(3)The species diversity of evergreen broadleaved forests was larger than that of warm conifer forests;(4) The species diversity of forests in Meizi Lake area has been affected by human factors.3. Based on the 2 x 2 contingency table, interspecific association among 17 commonspecies forests of Meizi Lake area was examined by using various indices, the results ares as follows:(1) W-test indicated that positive correlations exist among the common populations;(2)The most pairs of the populations in the forest communities in Meizi Lake area Showed positive correlations. The x2-test indicated that there were almost no significant interspecific association in most of the 136 species pairs, which reflects the independence of species pairs. The loose interspecific association is possibly related to the development stage of commiunities and ecological features of species.
