Wind will not only affect coastal areas and ocean engineering, but also affect the levees of lakes. Dian-shan Lake and Tai-hu Lake are located in the South-east of China, and are ofen affected by typhoon in summer. So it is important to study the wave field in these lakes, especially the wave field during the period of typhoon. In this paper, the wave field in Dian-shan Lake and Tai-hu Lake are calculated with different methods. First of all, the standard formulations and SWAN model are use to stimulate wave field respectively with the measured wind field. Since the area of Dian-shan Lake is small, the average of wind data from three stations in Dian-shan Lake has been taken as the input wind field for the SWAN model. By the comparison with the measured data, it was concluded that the accuracy of SWAN model is higher than that of standard formulations. Second, the wave fields in Tai-hu Lake are calculated with two different methods, which are the standard formulations and SWAN model, based on the measured wind field and forecasted wind field. Then, the results are compared with the measured data and the reason why the accuracy differentiates is analyzed. What is more, the wave field in Tai-hu during typhoon and cold spell are calculated with different methods. The results are compared with the measured data. Finally, the main conclusions of this paper are summarized, and what should be researched further is discussed.
