In the present thesis, by using the SWAN model the waves generated by thetyphoon Lekima during the period from Sep. 29, to Oct. 3, 2007around Hainan Islandis simulated with high spatial resolution, in which the physical process of wind-wave,bottom friction, white capping, depth-induced wave breaking and nonlinear wavewaveinteractions are considered. And then, the simulated results of wave height andwave spectra by SWAN model are compared with the measurements by ADCP. Thewind field is obtained from the Fujita formula combined with QSCAT/NCEP windfield. To receive relatively accurate result, we use the nested method in which theboundary conditions of the inner small model are supplied by the outer larger model. The simulated results of waves indicate that wave characteristics varies with thevariation of the location of the typhoon center and the model can predict wave heightand wave spectra properly and thus is capable of providing wave data for engineeringpractice.
